Tuesdays Together: September 2019
Making Waves with Instagram
The second Tuesday of the month brings one of my favorite days of the month: TuesdaysTogether, a monthly meeting of our local Rising Tide Society chapter here in Green Bay. This month nearly 30 of our creative business owners gathered together in the gorgeous space of Lux Life Chiropractic in Downtown De Pere to learn and share about one of our most used online marketing tools: Instagram.
Instagram is my absolute favorite social media app! I may be slightly biased towards it because of its visual aspect but there really is SO MUCH you can do with it. Simply think of all the story features. But trust me I get it! It can be easy to become discouraged when we put in the time to create the post or story and we don’t have the reach, comments or likes we desire. Our TuesdaysTogether members generously opened up about their struggles, successes, confusions and questions with this social app.
Takeaways from the Meeting
We are blessed that our co-leader Nicole is a talented social media strategist and was on hand to answer all our our groups questions (and provide lots of laughter)! Everything from what’s up with the algorithm lately to what hashtags should I be using? I’m sharing a few of my favorite takeaways below.
Think of Instagram like your webpage
Ok this is a mind blown amazing perspective of Instagram that Nicole shared – and so true! When someone visits your profile the first nine photos along with your profile bio should tell exactly what you are about. And those highlights? They are like pages of your website, the more in depth details about a specific topic.
You Don’t Need to Post to the Grid Everyday!
Sigh. of. relief! Crafting a microblog caption to go with a perfectly crafted on brand photo can be intimidating, especially if you think you need to do it daily. However, a post’s reach lasts a lot longer than you would think and you can get by posting quality content 3-4 times a week consistently.
P.s. Need a good source of quality stock photos to use in between your brand photography? Check out Social Squares!
Be Social + Make Connections
This is where Instagram thrives. So none of that posting and ghosting friends! Taking the time to respond to your post comments, commenting on other’s posts, interacting with your follows in Instagram stories, sending voice messages in the DMs…all of this makes an impact on building relationships with your followers and connecting with your audience. And don’t forget in doing so to be personal and share you too!
